The Bangladesh National Zoo is one of the most popular places for watching animals and entertainment. Among the many zoos in South Asia, Bangladesh National Zoo is famous. The number of birds and animals and the arrival of the visitors is the highest in number. It has an area of 751 hectares (186 acres) of land. From the Zoo Data Center, It is known that, at present, there are 2,150 animals of 191 species in this Zoo. There are two lakes as well in the zoo that are that are home to thousands of migrating birds during winter.

In 1950, the Dhaka zoo was set up for animal exhibition in the High Court complex in Dhaka. The Zoo was established to save wildlife, research, education and entertainment. In 1971, the zoo was transferred from the High Court premises to Mirpur. The zoo was established on the banks of the Turag river of Mirpur. It was opened for visitors in 1974.

The Bangladesh National Zoo has more than 30 million annual visitors, including people of all ages from home and abroad. The main animals displayed here are Royal Bengal Tiger, Crocodile, Emu, Impalas, Black Bear, Peacock, Deer, Elephants, Rhinoceros and Camelopard etc.
