Banglar Tajmahal
Narayanganj, Bangladesh
The Taj Mahal of Bangladesh is the brain child of Mr. Ahsanullah Moni, a film-maker of Bangladesh. He announced his ‘Copycat version’ of Taj Mahal project in Bangladesh in December, 2008. The cost of the project estimated as about US $ 56 Million. Mr. Moni came up with the idea of building a Taj Mahal in 1980 when he visited the real Taj in Agra, northern India for the first time.
According to him, he had built the Tajmahal as half of the population living in Bangladesh below the poverty line and they cannot afford to travel to India to see the real thing. Everyone dreams about seeing the Taj Mahal but very few Bangladeshis can make the trip because it’s too expensive for them. Mr. Moni had visited the original in 1980 for the first time and paid six return trips. He hired a group of architects and sent them to India to measure it.
He claimed that he used the same marble and stone as in the original Taj. He also claimed that he used machinery which saves time to build the entire Tajmahal in Bangladesh. Otherwise it would have taken 20 years and 22,000 workers to complete it. The Tajmahal of Bangladesh was built 20 miles northeast of Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh.
