And this the part of our intangible cultural Heritage. Because almost 200 years plus old Kaikartek Hat. And it is disappearing day by day. The market is losing its tradition due to a lack of reform. Market days are less busy than before. The Hat is held every Sunday of the week and that's why also called Sunday Hat. This Hat is located in the Kaikartek area of the Mograpara union of Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj.
On the Dhaka- Chittagong highway, get off at Mograpara Bus station and get CNG or auto rickshaw for Kaikartek Hat. The Hat is built on the bank of the Brahmaputra river with beautiful surroundings and ancient landmarks. It is known that Kaikartek Hat is located on about 50 bighas of land. The market was set up on the banks of the river to facilitate the transportation of goods by water and road. But with the passage of time, the courtship of Hat is going to be lost. Buyers and sellers do not come as before. The old signs of the Hat and the leafy Lebbek Tree stand as living witnesses to the age of the Hat.
History: The Kaikertek Hat carrying the tradition of the village Bangla of Narayanganj for almost 200 years plus. we know that from Ibn Battuta wrote in his travel book that he bought two teenage girls and two teenage slaves from a riverside market in Subarnagram (the original name of Sonargaon). At that time he saw elephants being sold in this bazaar. Ibn Battuta visited this country long before British rule.
The description in his Rihal book bears a close resemblance to the present Kaikartek Hat. Also, It is common in people's mouths about Kaikartek Hat, once elephants and horses were sold in this market! Therewas also the movement of kings. From this evidence, we can say that this Hat is more than 200 years old
