Altadighi is one of the historical and important places of Dhamairhat Upazila. The total forest area of Dhamairhat upazila is 1401.69 acres. Of this, 274.12 (752.36 acres) hectare of Altadighi and adjoining forest area adjacent to Kol of India about 5 km north of the Upazila Sadar has been allotted to the Ministry of Environment and Forests on 14-12-2011. "Altadighi National Park" has been declared in Circular No. 37. The park is located about 56 km north of Naogaon district town and 19 km west of Joypurhat district town. The largest lake in Naogaon district has a total area of 55.48 acres (including banks) with a length of 1.20 km and a width of 0.20 km. The area of the bank of the lake is 12.64 acres of which 6.21 acres are owned by the forest department and 8.13 acres are under khas khatian number 1. It is to be noted that the area of Altadighi reservoir alone is 42.61 acres. On the north, south, east and west banks of the lake there are beautiful gardens of Akashmani and Eucalyptus species. On the other hand, there are natural sal forests in Mysore on the south side and Dadanpur on the west side.
There are rumors that in the Barind region at one time due to severe drought all the fields and ghats were burning due to extreme drinking water crisis. Due to the demands of the subjects, the local Jagdal of Bihar (1077-1120 AD) during the rule of Raja Rampal and Sadar Pal, the queen mother sought a dowry from her son in view of the demands of the subjects. He promised to wake me up in the morning and dig a dighi as far as I could walk. According to her mother, the old woman is walking and she is not stopping. Raja, Wazir, Nazir, Irregularly, how can he dig such a long dighi, so he tricked the old woman by pouring alta on her leg and cut off her foot. From then on this lake was named Altadighi.
Recently, two roundabouts with bamboo benches have been constructed with a canopy for tourists to rest. According to the local forest department, 300 tourists from different parts of the country visit Altadighi National Park every day so that the income of the local stalls is around BDT 6,000.
