Bhawal Raj Shamshanswari

Bhawal Raj Shamshanswari, located at Joydebpur in Gazipur District, is a significant archeological site in Bangladesh. The Bhawal Raj crematorium was erected on a 5 acre site on the south bank of the Chilai River, just 1 km from Bhawal Rajbari, for the cremation of members of the zamindar family.
Nameplates and monuments bearing the names of the deceased members of the family. There is also a six-pillar Shiva temple built in Mughal architecture in the cremation ground. In the forties of the 18th century, Balram Roy worked as a dewan of Daulat Ghazi, the then zamindar of Bhawal Pargana in Gazipur. Later, Balram Roy bought Daulat Gazi's zamindari at auction.
After the death of Balaram Roy in 1843, his son Krishnaray started managing the zamindari and Bhawal zamindari became permanent. After the death of Krishna Roy in 1850, his son Joydev Roy Bhawal took charge of the zamindari. The Bhawal area came to be known as Joydevpur after the name of Zamindar Joydev Roy
