Ekdala Fort
The 5km long and 2km wide Ekdala Fort was made in 600 B.C. by a famous Hindu King in Gazipur’s Kapashia area, located 10km away from Shitalokkh and on the west of Brahmaputra River. The fort was renovated in 1352 B.C. by Ilias Shah to defend from a probable attack by Delhi’s Sultan Firoze Tughalk. In 1353 and 1357 B.C. Delhi’s Sultan Firoze attacked the Ekdala Fort twice but was unable to capture the fort at any of the attempts.

Alauddin Shah’s son Nasir Uddin Shah reconstructed the building again from 1518 – 1532 BC. During the reign of Emperor Akbar, King Todormol announced this area as a part of the Bhawal region and that is when the Ekdala Fort started to slowly become deserted. The Dardaria Fort located in the Rayed Union near Kali Bana Riverbank was used as a sub fort of Ekdala Fort.

The Ekdala Fort was built by a Hindu king around 600 AD, west of the Shitalakshya and Brahmaputra rivers. The fort was 5 km long and 2 km wide. After establishing himself as the independent sultan of Bengal, Ilyas Shah completed the renovation of the fort around 1352 AD to protect it from possible attack by the Feroze Tughlaq Sultan of Delhi. When Feroze Tughlaq invaded Bengal in 1353 AD, Ilyas Shah took refuge in this fort without any hindrance.

At this time Feroze Tughlaq, the capital of Bengal, but Akadala could not capture the fort. After a few months of siege, when there was a battle between the two armies, the Bengal army was defeated, but Ekdala fort was still invincible. Finally, disappointed, Feroze Shah returned to Delhi. Later peace was established between the two. When Ilyas Shah died in 1356 AD, Sikandar Shah ascended the throne of Bengal. After the death of Ilyas Shah, in retaliation, Feroze Tughlok invaded Bengal again.

This time too, like his father, Sikandar Shah took refuge in Ekdala fort. After besieging the fort for several months, Feroze Tughlaq made a treaty. Then Feroze Tughlaq accepted the independence of Bengal and returned to Delhi. Then from 1517 AD to 1532 AD, Nasir Uddin Shah, son of Alauddin Hussain Shah, renovated the fort. Dwar-i Dariya (Dardariya) fort, located on the east bank of Kali Banar river in Rayed union, was a branch fort of Ekdala fort. During the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar, King Todarmal annexed the area to Bhawal Pargana. Gradually this fort was abandoned.
